IWC:
"The International Whaling Commission." IWC. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 June 2015.

The International Whaling Commission, also known as the IWC, works to manage the whale populations and keep them well stocked. The commission follows the guidelines of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling. This requires that they help restrict when whales can be hunted, where, and how many. They also help describe future effects of whaling and how this will hurt us in the long run. There are many other organizations working to preserve marine animals, but this one focuses specifically on whales and their future.
The IWC is one of the biggest and most popular whale conservation groups. It is an Inter-governmental group that 88 different governments have membership in. This organization follows the guidelines of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling which is an international agreement that was signed by many countries back in 1946. This makes it nearly 70 years old. This source clearly has many strong credentials due to its age and affiliation with the government.
Information from this source can fit in perfectly with our goals. Many of the goals of the Commission directly line up to those of our mission statement and the facts it provides will add strong background information to support us. We can show how drastic of a problem whaling is to those that don’t really understand the magnitude of it by using information from this source. It provides not only the quotas of where whaling should be headed and how it will try to get there, but also facts and statistics on where it is at now. This commission is one of the biggest and well known of its kind and is a critical source in our research because of its strong facts and our shared opinion of the problem.
Save the Whales:
Sidenstecker, Maris, II. "Save The Whales - Website Links." Save The Whales. Save the Whales Organization, n.d. Web. 07 June 2015.
http://www.savethewhales.org/
The organization, Save the Whales, focuses on educating children and adults on whales and the environment in which they live in order to encourage them to sign petitions to end whaling. This organization was founded by a fourteen year old named, Maris Sidenstecker in 1977. This organization focuses on education children because since they are the future generation of this world, and they have the ability to end whaling entirely. This organization includes a large amount of information about whales and the issue of whaling. Also, they list small steps that you individually can take to stop the issue of whaling and to protect their environment. Finally, the Save the Whales organization was a location where from the website people can make donations, join the Save the Whales organization, adopt a whale, sign petitions, and/or write letters to senators about the issue of whaling.
Overall, I do believe that the website and the organization is credible. It includes a wide array of information on whales, and in addition, on the websites says that they are a nonprofit organization that has been working for over twenty five years to help protect marine life, especially whales. Also, this organization includes the various ways that they have been helping protect the environment. For example, this organization has worked tirelessly to educate the future generations and has already educated over 250,000 children on the issue of whaling. The final reason that this organization is credible is because their staff seems very knowledgeable about marine life, and are passionate about sharing what they have learned. Furthermore, not only does the staff members have a great understanding about whaling and the other problems whales face, their is an entire board called the scientific advisory committee, where marine biology professor and researchers together make sure this organization is putting out reliable and credible information.
Similar to the goal of our organization, Love the Whales, the Save the Whales organization target audience is children. Both of our organizations agree that the children are the ones who can make the greatest impact on this cause because they have the ability to take action, make a change, and save the whale population. This site is very beneficial to our organization because we can work together to educate the future generations.
Sea Shepherd:
"Sea Shepherd Conservation Society." Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Sea Shepherd, n.d. Web. 09 June 2015.
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving marine wildlife. They want to end the killing and destruction of marine wildlife's habitat. They are one of the only organization that takes direct action in confronting illegal activities on the oceans. Each year, they compile a crew that campaigns to stop the slaughter of many marine species such as, bluefin tuna, dolphins, coral reefs, sea lions, seals, sharks, turtles, and whales. Since, the IWC has not been able to enforce the moratorium on whaling, Sea Shepherd makes it their mission to enforce these regulations either by fundraising, raising awareness, or through direct involvement by disabling whaling ships.
The Sea Shepherd's are at the forefront of anti-whaling organizations. They are the most well known and active of all of these organizations. However, their tactics have gained a lot of controversy. It's questionable as if their methods of stopping whaling ships are considered illegal or not. This tends to impose a bad reputation of them as modern day pirates, since there have been cases where crew members have been arrested for illegally boarding whaling vessels. Due to these events, an injunction has been imposed on them where they are no longer allowed to participate in Southern Ocean whale defense campaigns. This site is a great organization for preventing whaling, but it can also be detrimental to the cause as it has attracted so much negative publicity.
Overall, this is a great website that supports our cause. It shows children a way to get directly involved anti-whaling campaigns. While, their information may be biased and marred due to controversy, it has been around since 1977 and is still well-renowned by many for their work at shutting down the Japanese whaling fleet. This organization has also been part of an exciting tv show called, "Whale Wars," which has increased the support for our cause. This is a critical source for anyone looking to get involved in ending illegal whaling activities.
